I have always felt the need to create and be creative and in the early 1980’s I attended Swansea College of Art where I studied ceramics. I went on to open a pottery studio in Swansea where I created mostly slab built pieces and I loved the various processes and techniques involved in the making and decorating of the pots.
When I had children, my life took a different direction and I became a social worker and my creativity diminished somewhat, although I still found small ways to express my creativity in various ways.
It was during the Covid pandemic where I started taking photographs on my I phone which I enjoyed immensely. I was excited by the immediacy of the process and how with a few edits here and there I could really enhance my captures.
Seeing beauty in the unobserved, the mundane and in the textures in nature and the landscape then reimagining them in ways that really enhances the image.
I started to experiment with layering one photograph on top of another, blending two of three images together and was excited by the way these images turned out. The interaction between the layered images created surprising and interesting new images that offered more depth, texture and mystery.
More recently I have attended some mark making and painting workshops which has led me to experiment with over layering the photographic and painted image and I am really excited by the results of this fusion.
I am really looking forward to the next chapter in my creative journey.
