Esther is an artist maker with over 25 years experience making and teaching ceramics. Graduating in 1998 with a BA (hons) in Ceramics, her practice is very firmly grounded in participation, community and collaboration. Her own work is eclectic and generally has a social commentary element. She explores themes using moulds, handbuilding methods, decals and lustres. Recent projects include: ‘Flotilla’ - commisioned to mark WW1. A flotilla of boats made by schoolchildren and community members in Llanelli to recognise the sacrifices made by local men in the Merchant Navy, exhibited at Park Howard Museum. ‘Copper Crucibles’ A partnership project with National Waterfront Museum, Swansea University and GS Artists. Community members came together to make hundreds of replica ceramic crucibles, exploring the history of the Hafod-Morfa Copperworks. The pieces were Raku fired at venues across Swansea and displayed in NWM’s White Walls Gallery and Oriel Science.
Esther offers ceramics classes for all ages and backgrounds and can come to your venue, 121 session can be offered in her own cosy workshop, where she caters for beginners or those who want to complete a specific project. I have everything needed - tools, equipment, clays and glazes. I also have two raku kilns and can offer workshops using this exciting technique.
EL Evans at Swansea Carers Centre writes ‘Esther is a pleasure to work with professionally. Her enthusiasm for making ceramics shines through and she is always on hand to answer questions and take her time with participants’.

Keep an eye out for Esther's Raku Demonstrations over the two weekends. These events will provide insights into this unique firing technique, showcasing the transformation of glazed pottery through high-heat and rapid cooling. It's an excellent opportunity for both pottery enthusiasts and newcomers to appreciate the artistry involved. Make sure to check the schedule regularly to catch these engaging demonstrations.
